The Greene County High School Class of 2016 will graduate on Sunday, but Tuesday night, they were honored with the annual senior awards program.

Principal Brian Phillips says 67 students received over 76 scholarships, which totaled over $560,000, including $149,000 in local scholarships. Max Neese, of Grand Junction, was one the recipients of Raccoon Valley Radio’s Business and Broadcasting Scholarship. He received $250 to help further his education in finance at Iowa State University.

As an added event, the seniors will have an opportunity to visit the lower grade buildings on Friday as part of a “Senior Walk Through”. Phillips points out they got the idea from another school on social media.

“There was a school in Texas that did a senior walk and basically the seniors put on their caps and gowns and went through some of the lower grades and we’re going to do the same thing after graduation practice this Friday. So it should be a positive for our seniors kids and a positive for our younger kids that look up to the seniors.”

The walk is scheduled to start at 10am at the middle school, then at 10:20am at the elementary school and end at the intermediate school in Grand Junction at 10:50am.

The seniors will then receive their diplomas at the graduation commencement ceremony at 2pm on Sunday at the middle school gym.
