The Highway 144 and Willis Avenue intersection project in Perry is nearly complete.
Originally scheduled to be done by June 3rd, the City expects the project to be finished this week. All of the storm sewer and paving for both phases of the project have been completed, now it’s time to put up the new traffic signals.
“Hopefully by the end of the week every pole should be in place and set. They’re hoping to have a four-way red flashing light, so four way stop still through the weekend, then on Monday morning they’ll start the lights and have the new configuration of lights going.”
That’s City Administrator Sven Peterson who reminds everyone that the new lane configurations will start at Otley Avenue and extend north on Highway 144 to Bateman Street. The existing four lane road will be changed to a three lane section with the middle one being for left turns.
All drivers and pedestrians are urged to take extra precaution at the intersection when the signals go into full operation because it make take time to get used to.
