Memorial Day services are coming up on Monday in the City of Jefferson and one group plays a key role in those events.

Greene County High School Band Director Wes Anderson is finishing up his first-year in the district. He says having the students play on Memorial Day is honor.

“It’s kind of a perfect way to cap off the (school) year because they kids have been working hard all year for different competitions and different concerts and doing lots of different music. And then we kind of bring it all back together and put it into perspective and talk about what role music plays in our lives. And I think definitely Memorial Day is a great example of using music to actually inscribe meaning into people’s hearts and reach out to people.”

The band will be playing “Salute to Freedom” and the National Anthem at the Jefferson Municipal Cemetery during the 10:45am service. Jack Schilling, John Mobley and Janelle Brophy will be playing taps are several other services in the county.
