Greene County High School sophomore Rachael Danielson shot 94 on Wednesday at the Class 4A portion of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union State Golf Tournament on Wednesday. That left her in eighteenth place among 56 girls in the 36 hole tournament at the Coldwater Golf Links Course in Ames with a two-day total of 189. Danielson was tied for twentieth after the first day and improved by a stroke from a 95 on Tuesday. She was making her first State Golf Tournament appearance, and the first in decades for a Jefferson-based female golfer. Available research has indicated Elaine Waples in 1964 and ’65 is the only other girl from here to qualify.
Sarah Nacos of Washington was meet medalist at 12 over 154. Washington also won the team title, and eastern Iowa golfers dominated Class 4A. Two golfers from Creston, Danielson, and twentieth place Lindsey Lange of ADM were the only golfers from west of Interstate 35 to break the top 20.
