Greene County suffered a lopsided 12-1 Heart of Iowa Activities Conference softball loss in Jefferson to South Hamilton (Jewell) on Monday night in Jefferson. The game went seven innings, but was never close as the Hawks scored eight runs in the top of the first by hitting the ball and taking advantage of several errors by the Rams. SH totaled 10 hits to seven for the Rams and Greene County was charged with six errors to one for the Hawks. Four of the errors for the Rams took place in the big first inning.

Sydney Koch homered in the first inning for the lone Rams run. It was her third round-tripper of the season. Megan Durbin doubled for the other Greene County extra base hit. Megan Carey singled twice while Samantha Hardaway, Hannah Promes, and Carleigh Paup each added a base hit.

Promes allowed five earned runs on 10 hits, a hit batter, one walk, and four strikeouts. Winning pitcher Taylor Volkman gave up all seven hits, but she fanned 11 and id not walk anyone.

Greene County fell to 8-11 overall and 4-7 in the league. Coach Tom Kennedy’s team has lost three straight games and steps outside the conference tonight to face Manson-Northwest Webster in Manson.

The Rams host Nevada on KG98 Wednesday night around 7:30 p.m.
