For an 18th consecutive year, Greene County’s Breakfast With The Band was performed under sunny skies.
Traditionally done on the last day of school, the middle school band students parade march to the downtown square, where they perform the Ram fight song and are treated to donut holes from Bunkers Dunkers. Second-year teacher Hanna Sundberg describes one of the major highlights of the band this year.
“I think one of the biggest highlights has been seeing the band numbers grow. The seventh grade band is around 50 kids now. Last year I started with an eighth grade band of only 25. So it’s been fun to see the numbers grow and the kids improve.”
She recently resigned her position because she is getting married and moving to Des Moines. She is going to continue teaching middle school band at North Polk. Sundberg tells Raccoon Valley Radio what she’ll miss the most working at the Greene County Middle School.
“I’m going to miss the enthusiasm of all the kids and especially the community members. The parents and the community members have been so supportive of everything we do.”
June 1st was the end of the 2015-16 school year for Greene County Schools.
