Jefferson LibraryAll are youth are encouraged to join this year’s summer reading programs at the Jefferson Public Library.

Children’s Librarian Terry Clark says this year’s theme is “On Your Mark, Get Set…READ!” It is for youth ages four through fifth graders. The program includes participants playing a variety of games such as “Bookopoly” to earn prizes, along also doing crafts and art activities, movies, puppet shows and reading throughout the summer. Clark describes what each kid will receive when they join.

“We have registration that has already begun. When the kids come in, they pick up a packet, their ‘Bookopoly’ game sheet, a book log, a bookmark (and) they get a free tattoo that says ‘READ’ on it, it’s a really cool tattoo. We welcome them anytime to come and register.”

There are a couple of special programs that will take place at the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson. On June 27th at 1pm will be a performance by The Hanson Family, which involves juggling on unicycles. Then on July 19th at 10am will be an appearance by the Science Center of Iowa.

The program is going on now through July 25th. For more information, contact the children’s department at 386-4415.
