The Greene County Historical Society invites everyone to their special Sunday program about the Mahanay Bell Tower in Jefferson.
The three-part program entitled “Mahanay Bell Tower-Past, Present and Future” will be at the historical museum at 2pm. To kickoff the event will be Don and Bonnie Orris portraying Floyd and Dora Mahanay, who have been deceased since 1947 and 1962 respectively. They will discuss with attendees about why they donated $350,000 to build the now 50-year structure and what they wanted it to become.
The second part of the program will be tour guide coordinator for the Bell Tower, Pat Richards talking about the current events with the tower, as well as renovations and possible events that can be scheduled at the tower.
The final part will explore the future of the tower with the Bell Tower Community Foundation President Carole Custer. She will discuss their $440,000 fundraising campaign to purchase the final bells for the full four-octave carillon.
Following the program, attendees can visit the tower for free. There will also be refreshments served at the museum.
