Those who filled up their gas tanks in Grimes recently are urged to check their bank statements.
The Polk County Sheriff’s office says credit card skimming devices were discovered inside two gas pumps Thursday afternoon. Unlike other devices that fit over the card reader on the outside of the pump, these skimmers were found to be plugged into the card reader inside the gas pumps.
A pump technician was doing maintenance at the BP gas station at 1905 Southeast 37th Street, just off Highway 141, when he found the devices and immediately reported it to law enforcement.
The Sheriff’s office says if you must pay at the pump, make sure you check the tamper-proof stickers on the panel to ensure they are not broken.
Similar devices were also found at a Bondurant Git n’ Go this week.
