The ADM/Van Meter girls soccer team squared off in their first state tournament round match up against Bishop-Heelan yesterday.

The Lady Tigers earned a trip to the state tournament thanks to an 19-1 record on the season while being ranked 4th in class 2A. The Tigers went against class 2A’s 5th ranked squad in Bishoop-Heelan in a rematch from an earlier season match up in which the Tigers one 2-1.

It would be a back and forth game with no scoring for either team through the first half of play all knotted up at zero’s as the Lady Crusaders and the Lady Tigers headed into the second half. ADM/Van Meter finished the first half with three shots on goal while Bishop-Heelan finished the half with 4 shots on goal to ADM/Van Meter goalie Jessica Craigmile.

The Lady Tiger had the majority of possession time in the first half as they were with the wind but that would flip in the second half as the Tigers would face the wind and find the Cursaders holding the majority of possession time. The Lady Crusaders kept the ball around the Lady Tiger goal a good chunk of the second half but had a hard time finding a clean shot as ADM/Van Meter goalie posted 5+ saves on the game.

Bishop-Heelan would break the 0-0 deadlock tie however in the 59th minute of action as Bishop-Heelan’s Lexie Stolen nicely set up Rhea Geer for a clean look as the Lady Crusaders would score the games only goal putting them up 1-0 over the Tigers. ADM/Van Meter could not manage to find many more opportunities to tie the game after Bishop-Heelan took the lead and unfortunately that is how the game would end as the Lady Tigers would fall to the Lady Crusaders 1-0.

With the loss the Lady Tigers would end the season at 19-2 on the season. Before the game the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association released their All-State teams which saw two Lady Tigers earn 1st team honors. After earning first team all RRC honors both ADM forward Sydney Bertman and goalie Jessica Craigmile earned first team all state honors.
