Laurin Lyons and Sydney Koch hit home runs, but PCM was a 7-6 Heart of Iowa Activities Conference high school softball winner in Monroe on Monday night over Greene County. The Rams drop to 7-7 overall and 4-5 in the HOIAC while PCM is also 7-7 overall and they are 5-4 in the conference.
PCM’s Kayla Jennings was the winning pitcher and she went four for four at the plate with a home run and a double. The Mustangs had 12 hits and six earned runs off Greene County pitcher Hannah Promes, who walked two batters and struck out one.
The Rams had eight hits off Jennings including the two homers. Koch’s blast was a two-run shot, her second this season, that put the Rams up 6-5 in the sixth, but the Mustangs scored twice in the bottom of the frame. Greene County was held scoreless in the seventh.
Promes doubled and singled, and had one run batted in, and both Carleigh Paup and Megan Carey had a pair of singles. Koch drove in two runs and Lyons had one RBI.
The Rams had three error and the Mustangs had two.
Next up for the Rams is a non-conference game in Jefferson tonight vs. Class 4A number one ranked ADM on KG98. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
