The Greene County School Board met Wednesday in regular session.

The Board approved a one-year lease agreement with the Greene County Fair Board for $17,500 to continue to store the district’s buses in the facilities on the fairgrounds. The Fair Board also stipulated a December 1st deadline whether or not to extend the yearly agreement. The district is continuing to investigate purchasing the former National Guard Armory building from the county.

The Board then approved a second reading of a revised board policy about bereavement leave for classified staff members and spending $48,000 to upgrade the current security camera system at all of the buildings in the district, using physical plant and equipment levy funds.

Following a discussion, the Board decided to use Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation allocated funds to purchase about 125 Google Chromebooks for every student in grades third through eighth to be 1:1 and upgrading science equipment, pending final quotes for both items.

The Board tabled its decision about changing the attendance policy until the July meeting.

Under new business, the Board approved the tax exemption certificate and authorized issuing the terms and securing payment of bonds of $1.35 million in school infrastructure bond series 2016. The Board also approved the 2016-17 food service and 28E agreement with New Opportunities and Head Start, the 2016-17 contract with Genesis Development and the Educational Based Career Education program, the 2016-17 contract with Region XII Council of Governments and Western Iowa Transit System and an agreement with Solution Tree as presented.

Finally, the Board agreed to not have their open public meetings in July and August and would start the monthly meetings again in September.
