Allensworth Field in JeffersonThe Greene County Rams baseball team opened this season with the newly renovated Allensworth Field in Jefferson.

Last year, the School Board approved repairs to the baseball field. Iowa Cubs Sports Turf installed a new tile drainage and irrigation system for the entire infield and part of the outfield, along with laser-leveling the infield and building a new pitcher’s mound. Head coach Mark Sawhill is impressed with the new look to the field.

“Kind of plays like a pool table on the infield, which is what we needed. There’s no bad hops right now. Eventually those will start coming and we’ve got to make sure that we take care of that. But there’s no bad hops, plays pretty true. You can actually keep your glove on the ground and not worry about having to protect your face. So it has been a really good thing for us.”

The improvements were part of 12 other projects that cost $576,500 last summer from the district’s voter-approved physical plant and equipment levy fund.
