20160623_090746701Guthrie County Weed Commissioner, Eric Whitver, is having to deal with issues of noncompliance in regards to the removal of noxious weeds, this summer.

Each year the County publishes a time for destruction and control of noxious weeds to take place. If the Weed Commissioner identifies or receives a formal complaint about noxious weeds not being removed, then the County can take action.

County code says the commissioner can charge $10 per day for 10 days per tract of land until the landowner controls the weeds, then after 10 days the weed commissioner can remove the weeds himself, or hire a mowing company to remove the weeds, and assess the cost of doing so against the property owner’s taxes.

The Board of Supervisors lauded Whitver’s efforts Thursday morning, and is encouraging him to continue the strong enforcement of noxious weed removal.
