perry chamberThe Perry Chamber is looking to reacquaint or perhaps introduce their Board members to the many amenities the town has to offer in hopes that they will continue to lead by example.

Executive Director Bob Wilson says the idea of “fam tours” or familiarization tours came from several of the conferences he has attended.

“I think a lot of us are really busy.  A lot of us don’t have the time to really explore.  We do meet twice a month as a Chamber Board, there’s 11 people on the Board, for about an hour, sometimes I push it a little harder trying to get through stuff to about an hour and a half.  I think it’s very important to make contact, as a Chamber Board, with our membership.”

So at the last Board meeting, Wilson led the group on a tour.  It started at the Welcome Depot, followed by stops at Firehouse Ice Cream, the Iowa Fire Museum, Mary Rose Collection and Perry Paint and Design.

“We’re going to try and do this more often.  If you’d like us to come out to your business, let us know.  We’d love to be invited, usually I invite ourselves.  It was a great experience and again, sometimes we get so wrapped up in our own lives and our own work, and we’re overworked, and we just forget to slow down and say thanks to all those other people out there doing that great stuff.”

The Perry Chamber Board meets the first and third Thursday of the month at noon.  You can contact Wilson at 465-4601 if you’d like them to stop by your business.
