The Greene County High School baseball team stays on the road tonight and meets fellow Heart of Iowa Activities Conference member Roland-Story in Story City. The Norsemen won 5-2 in Jefferson earlier this month and they were 23-6 through June 28 and have a conference record of eight wins and four losses. Greene County is 9-14 overall and 5-9 in the league.
Coach Mark Sawhill’s team has won six of its last eight games and one of the things to point to is am improved team batting average. The Rams have hovered just over .300 as a team most of the season, but the hitting has taken a jump up during the last eight contests. Greene County is 70 for 203 for a .344 mark in those games, and even better in the last six wins, going 61 of 158 for a .386 clip. Some timely hitting has helped as well, as shown by the Rams coming from behind in the last 10 days from deficits of three and four runs in the sixth inning or later to win.
