Greene County has clinched a winning season in softball for the ninth season in a row under 10-year head coach Tom Kennedy. The Rams are 16-13 and face a Perry team tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in Perry in the opening round of Class 4A regional play that has won two-thirds of its games including a 9-0 victory a month ago in Perry over the Rams. Greene County did not get a hit in the first meeting, so the that’s the first task facing the Rams; how to get hits off junior pitcher Emma Olejniczak.

Greene County has a .299 team batting average and is led by left-handed slap hitters Carleigh Paup and Megan Carey. Paup is a senior who hit .439 in the regular season and Carey is a freshman who batted. 406. The Rams have some power as shown by hitting 17 home runs this season. Leading the way in that category is senior Sydney Kock with five homers and a team high 32 runs batted in. Sophomore Megan Durbin has four homers and all came in the last four games of the regular season. Paup has three homers with two from freshman Jenna Beyers, and one each for sophomore Samantha Hardaway, junior Hannah Promes, and sophomore Laurin Lyons.
