Jefferson Fire DepartmentA ditch fire was put out by the quick reacting Jefferson Fire Department Monday.

Greene County Chief Deputy and Jefferson Fire Captain Jack Williams says the fire department and the Greene County Sheriff’s office responded to the fire at 1:05pm on Highway 4 near 330th Street. Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio they shut down part of the highway for about 30 minutes, due to all the smoke from a fire that was burning in the ditches on both sides of the two-lane highway.

No one was hurt in the incident and a cause wasn’t determined. Williams notes that they are not going to investigate what may have caused the fire at this time.

Fire crews were on scene for a little over an hour.
