After playing in the State Softball Tournament in 2014 and ’15, Greene County is not in the field this  year, but five of the teams they played in 2016, are playing at the Rogers Sports Complex north of Ft. Dodge. Coach Tom Kennedy’s team had a combined 1-6 record against State Tournament teams with the lone victory over Class 1A semifinalist Martensdale-St. Mary’s. Greene County lost twice to 4A Perry, twice to 3A CMB (Baxter), and once to 3A Solon and 2A Interstate-35. The losses to CMB were each by one run, and the loss to I-35 was by two runs. The loss to Solon was 11-4 after the Rams and Spartans were tied 4-4 at the end of six innings. The losses to Perry were not close (9-0 and 13-7), but after being no-hit the first time vs. the Jayettes, the Rams managed seven runs and 11 hits in the second meeting.
