Greene County’s high school baseball season is over, but three Heart of Iowa Activities Conference schools still have hopes of reaching next week’s State Tournament at Principal Park in Des Moines. League champion Saydel (Des Moines) and Gilbert are still playing in Class 3A, while CMB (Baxter) remains in the 2A field. State tourney berths will be determined tonight and tomorrow night in all four classes, weather permitting. Some games were rained out last night.

Mark Sawhill is Greene County’s head coach and he talked about the three remaining teams. “Saydel is a great team and J. R. Gebhart does a great job coaching them. Gilbert is still alive, and CMB is tough, especially with Brady Stover pitching. These are three good teams that are really doing well. We are working on some things to get our program to that level.”
