Greene County completed its high school softball season two weeks ago, but five of the teams Coach Tom Kennedy’s team played this season are still going at the State Tournament north of Ft. Dodge. The Rams went a combined 1-6 vs. Class 1A Martensdale-St. Mary’s, 2A Interstate-35 (Truro), 3A Solon and CMB (Maxwell), and 4A Perry. The Rams lost twice by one run each time to CMB, twice to Perry including 13-7 in the Class 4A regional first round, and once each to Solon and I-35. The win was against M-St.M.
In the quarterfinals at State, Martensdale-St. Mary’s and Solon were winners and advance to today’s semifinal round. Perry, I-35 and CMB lost and all three play in the consolation rounds today where they could still finish as high as fifth place. Solon and CMB played each other in Wednesday’s quarterfinals with the Spartans, last season’s 3A State champions, topping the 2016 Heart of Iowa Activities Conference champion Raiders by a score of 8-5.
