The new face of the Perry boys basketball program continues to get acquainted with his new surroundings after taking over as the head coach for the Perry boys’ basketball program as first reported a few months back on the Raccoon Valley Radio Network.

Dennis McDonnell arrived in Perry from Iowa Christian Academy where he served as the head coach the past 2 years.  We asked McDonnell what impressed him about Perry for him to want to take this job over a couple of other options that he had on the table.

“There were basically two factors that figured into my decision. There were several job opportunities that I was sort of working with and trying to decide what was best for myself and my family.  I’m married and have three daughters and I had to keep that  in mind and decide what’s going to work with them.  The second factor above all else were the kids on the Perry team and the community.  I like the demographics that we have.  I like that there is a balance of ethnicity and I really enjoy working with all kinds of kids and Activities Director Tom Lipovac was just fantastic to work with. Everyone here was really a class act.  I wouldn’t  be telling the truth if I said the incoming talent had me excited as well.  I’m excited to get a chance to work with some of the kids and I just have really been impressed with their abilities.  I know Ned just did a great job and what an excellent year that you guys had last year going to state and you know, I just hope to continue to carry on and be able to build on what he’s already established because it’s obviously it has been a thriving program.
