Jefferson City Council 7_26The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday night in regular session.

The Council approved Greene County Development Corporation’s quarterly funding request of $17,500, the third reading to increase water and sewer rates each by three percent, the second reading to amend the bow hunting ordinance, hiring Michael Stofer as the new police officer, appointed Amanda Bills to the Board of Adjustment and setting the hearing date for the 2016 paving projects for August 23rd.

The Council approved to send a variance request from Sue Taylor to put an addition onto her property near 407 South Cedar Street back to the Board of Adjustment. City Attorney Bob Schwartzkopf said the request didn’t follow the criteria for a variance because it encroached on the setback footage. The Board will reconsider the request and either vote to allow it or deny it.

Finally, the Council held a public hearing on the quiet zone project. Different options to either permanently close the railroad intersections through the city or lessening the noise of a train horn were presented by Synder and Associates. Most of the comments from the public were against closing the intersections and were in favor of using wayside, or directional horns. No formal action was taken by the Council.
