Jefferson Summer Reading ProgramThe Jefferson Library kids summer reading program wrapped up earlier this week with a final party at Russell Park Monday.

About 60 kids played several games including water gun fights, human ring toss and races like a pancake relay, which were all centered around this year’s theme of “On Your Mark, Get Set…READ!”

Prizes were given to the youth at the end of the party. The grand prize winner was Luke Robbins and his main prize was a new bicycle. The seven year-old tells Raccoon Valley Radio how he reacted when he won.

“Very surprised. Because I did not think I would get my name drawn because usually I never get drawn. My mom told me about the more books you read, the better prizes you get, so I read a lot of books.”

Bryce Ball was also recognized for reading the most books with 2,500 minutes.

Children’s librarian Terry Clark says this year’s program was another success.

“We just had a really great summer. Each one of the kids that participated read over 400 minutes, which is amazing. So we had a total of over 44,000 minutes that the kids read, that’s more than I think we’ve ever done before in the past. So I’m very proud of these kids, I think they worked really, really hard.”

Clark would also like to thank all of the sponsors for helping make the summer reading program as successful as it was.
