greene county historical societyA labor study was recently released for Greene County.

Midwest Partnership and Iowa Workforce Development conducted a Laborshed employment study for Western Iowa Advantage (WIAD) and Greene County. The study looked at the available labor force in the county in which WIAD employers draw their employees and their commuting patterns, regardless of political boundaries.

The study shows that 77.3 percent of Greene County’s estimated population is employed, with 21.9 percent working multiple jobs. The largest concentration of workers are employed in the healthcare and social services industries. The median wage is $16.80 per hour or $52,000 per year.

Commuters in the Greene County Laborshed area are willing to travel 22 miles for employment opportunities and there are about 549 people living in Jefferson that commute out of the City to work.
