Iowa’s sales tax free weekend is scheduled for August 5th and 6th.
“Consumers will save, just based on the math, they’ll save about $6 on every $100 that are spent on clothing and shoes. The average family spends about $600 on back to school items, that’s quite a bit in your pocketbook. So we encourage people to be as savvy as possible.”
That’s Greene County Extension Director Lori Mannel. Tips to be a wise shopper include planning ahead, setting a budget and sticking to it, comparing prices and expect a busy shopping weekend and be patient. Some of the items that are exempt from the tax free weekend include jewelry, watches and specific sports clothing and footwear.
Those who are looking to purchase items from a website, the tax free weekend begins at 12:01am on August 5th through midnight on the 6th.
Tax free weekend is aimed at helping parents and kids get ready for the upcoming school year.
