In addition to enforcing lawn and weed restrictions, Perry’s compliance officer is also making note of those who are not following the tree trimming rules.
According to city ordinance, trees need to be trimmed to 13 feet above the street and nine feet above the sidewalk.
Deputy Public Works Director Josh Wuebker says one of their employees is doing compliance on the side and noticing a lot of issues.
“I think he had done the west side of town and was up to 250 or so (violations) that he got, on the south side he was over 400 and he hadn’t even stared on the north side. So we’re kind of reevaluating that. We’re doing major bus routes right now so if trees are out of compliance there you’ll be getting a warning saying that I believe you have 20 days to have those trimmed either by yourself or a professional. If not, the City will come in and we’ll hire a tree trimming company to do that and assess that towards your property.”
Wuebker says they will be looking at options for next year that may mirror the new grass and weed ordinance that says regulations need to be met by the first and third Wednesday of the month, otherwise violators face the same penalties of having to pay for the work being done for them.
