United States Senator Chuck Grassley visited Guthrie County Thursday.
The Senator participated in a question and answer session in a packed conference room of about 100 people at Guthrie County Hospital.
The visit was part of Grassley’s initiative to visit all of the state’s counties. “When I’m not in Washington D.C., most people know I like to have question and answer sessions with people in different environments, so I can cover 99 counties each year — some are meetings like this where it’s an open town meeting that anyone can come to.”
Grassley answered dozens of questions from attendees, ranging in topic from the Affordable Care Act, medical marijuana, water quality, term limits, and he also weighed in on the presidential election. “I think we’re paying too much attention to personalities in this election, whether it’s Hillary (Clinton) or (Donald) Trump. I think you’ve got to think about the issues of the election and the future of the country. As far as Hillary wanting to build on what Obama’s done, why would you want to build on something that’s been the slowest growth coming out of a recession since World War II, and a 51-year low in homeownership and the American dream connected to that.”
Grassley adds the upcoming Presidential election could be one of the most meaningful in decades, with the winner likely appointing multiple Supreme Court justices.
