Severe thunderstorms damage portions of the Raccoon River Valley.

Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team broke into regular programming Thursday night at 7:36pm when a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for southwestern Guthrie County. The storms traveled east and eventually included southern Greene County and all of Dallas County. The final severe thunderstorm warning expired around 9:45pm.

Damage was reported in Dallas County where there were tree limbs and power lines down in Adel, Dallas Center, Redfield and Dexter, along with parts of Guthrie County. There was no damage reported in Greene County. Additionally, Mid-American Energy had almost 1,700 people without power in the area, another 40 Alliant Energy customers were without power in Dallas County and 18 Midland Power Cooperative customers in Greene County were without power during the storms.

Seven Raccoon Valley Radio staff members helped provide the live, up to the minute coverage and we were in touch with the WeatherEye Weather Center, the National Weather Service, local law enforcement and emergency management coordinators.

As always, you can count on the Raccoon Valley Radio network to provide coverage anytime severe weather strikes Dallas, Greene or Guthrie counties.
