emergency managementAdair and Guthrie County Emergency Management is looking into the possibility of merging their two county commissions into one made up of government leaders from both counties.

Coordinator Bob Kempf says the proposal could make operating the department more efficient. “We have two commissions, which means we have two meetings, two agendas, two minutes, we’ve been dividing our bills up between the two commissions for eight years. Every bill that comes in is divided up and each commission pays part of it, which technically is paid through the taxation money from each county. One thing state law allows us to do is combine those commissions, and we’ve proven over the past ten years that we work well together, a lot of our other agencies work well together, so why not formalize what we’ve been doing for ten years.”

Kempf will tell us more about the proposal today on Let’s Talk Guthrie County. It airs during the 9 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. hours on K107.9 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
