The start of the high school football season for the Greene County Rams is just one day away. Coach Dean Lansman’s team plays the Knights of Kuemper Catholic in Carroll on Friday. The freshmen teams play at 4:45 p.m. with the varsity squads kicking off at 7:30 p.m. Coverage on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com begins at 6:30 p.m. Doug Rieder begins his 38th season covering the Rams and John Rowland returns as the color commentator.

Coach Lansman told Raccoon Valley Radio that the Aug. 20 scrimmage at Panora vs. Panorama was beneficial in helping the coaching staff evaluate players. “The scrimmage was good because we were able to simulate game conditions. I felt we made a lot of progress in our Tuesday and Wednesday practices from the standpoint of the offense and defense coming along. We’ll have pregame tonight, then look forward to playing on Friday.”

The coach, now in his 21st season coaching high school football, said this preseason has gone by quicker than nearly any he can remember.
