The high school cross-country season began on Thursday at the Gilbert Invitational in Ames for the Greene County Rams. The meet was held on the Iowa State University course. Coach Kelly Simpson saw his girls’ team finish sixth among 11 full squads, while the boys were thirteenth in a 13 team field.

The highlight for the Rams were senior Olivia Hansen and freshman Bailey Cunningham finishing in the top 20 of the girls’ five kilometers (3.1 miles) race. Hansen was eighteenth in 23:17.04 and Cunningham was twentieth in 23:22.32. The other three Greene County girls to count in the team score were freshman Izzy Bravard, 79th in 28:04.92, freshman Ashlee Harmeyer, 80th in 28:05.24 and freshman freshman Kassie Lamoureux, 118th in 30:11.63.

Gilbert won the girls’ team title with 32 points and Katie Murano of Dallas Center-Grimes was the individual winner in 21:10.15.

On the boys’ side, DC-G was the winner with 26 points. The Rams had 399 and were led by junior Nick Killion who was 113th in 22:16.43. freshman Brian Hardaway was 181st in 25:08.39, junior Nathan Kennedy 194th in 26:00.84, senior Sergio Perez 205th in 26:46.04, and junior Jacob Hueser 231st in 34:06.20.
