Veteran head coach Donna Carhill saw her Greene County volleyball team open the season on Tuesday of this week with a split of two Heart of Iowa Activities Conference matches. The Rams were winners in three sets over Saydel (Des Moines) in the Eagles’ home gym, followed by a loss in three to Class 3A number 9 Gilbert.

Coach Carhill said she was pleased with how the first action of the season went. “We had some nerves in the beginning against Saydel. We worked those out and then played our game, so the Saydel match was pretty much how I anticipated. Gilbert’s rated and highly competitive. We had to get over some insecurities in the first game against them as well, But we did that and played tough in the second and third.”

The Rams play on Saturday, Sept. 3 in the South Central Calhoun Tournament in Lake City.
