Nicholas BalderasA Jefferson man was recently sentenced in Greene County District Court for a July incident.

According to court documents, 24 year-old Nicholas Anthony Balderas pled guilty to an aggravated misdemeanor for domestic abuse assault and had his two year prison sentence suspended to 90 days with credit for time already served. Then, after serving additional jail time in the Guthrie County jail for an unrelated case, he will then be placed on probation for two years.

The charge stems from a reported domestic abuse incident in the 400 block of South Pinet Street on July 21st. He was not at the residence when officers arrived on scene. However, they found him later that evening at the Dairy Queen in Jefferson and a foot pursuit ensued. The officer lost sight of Balderas. The homeowner then gave officers permission to search the residence on Saturday where he was finally arrested.

He was also ordered to pay over $1,000 in fines, surcharges, court-appointed attorney fees and victim restitution. He will also undergo a substance abuse class and a batterer’s education program and there is a no contact order for the victim.

He was originally charged with a Class D Felony for his third or subsequent offense for domestic abuse assault and a misdemeanor for interference with official acts. Court documents show that the felony was changed to a misdemeanor and the rest of the charges were dismissed.
