When Greene County visits Webster City tonight in the Lynx homecoming football game, the Rams will try to continue a string of close victories by the visiting team. In 2014, Greene County was the underdog, but the Rams spoiled the Lynx homecoming game with a narrow victory. Last year in Jefferson, an unbeaten Webster City team escaped Linduska Field with a two-point win, then went on to have an unbeaten regular season and advance as far as the quarterfinal round of the Class 3A playoffs.
Former Scranton Coach Bob Howard and the single wing offense has Webster City running the ball extremely well. They’ve topped the 1,000 yard mark rushing the football in just the first three games. The Lynx haven’t thrown the ball very often, or very well, for that matter.
The Rams have had some success both running and throwing, but have lacked consistency in the first three weeks. The loss to Dallas Center-Grimes last week is a case in point. The Rams trailed 10-0 early, then scored twice in the second quarter and held a 12-10 halftime lead that stood up for most of the third period, before they lost 18-12. Greene County totaled just eight yards of offense in the second half.
WC is 2-1 overall while the Rams are 0-3, and both teams are 0-1 in Class 3A District 2. Game time is 7:30 tonight with football coverage starting at 6:30 p.m. on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
