The Guthrie Center woman fatally shot in Sac County over the weekend has been identified.Twenty-four year-old Megan Sloss of Guthrie Center died in the hospital Sunday.
The Sac County Sheriff’s office reports she was driving north of the intersection of Highway 175 and Highway 71, east of Lake View, when a 9 mm handgun being handled by a male passenger reportedly accidentally discharged.
The bullet struck Sloss. She was taken to Loring Hospital in Sac City, and later airlifted to a Des Moines hospital where she died of her injuries.
The incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s office and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the passenger has not yet been identified by authorities.
Sloss was a graduate of Guthrie Center High School. A prayer service is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. inside of the Guthrie Center High School gym, with visitation taking place that evening from 5:30-9:00 p.m.
