The Greene County High School football team had just 45 total yards of offense in the last half of their third game of the season and in all of game four, so getting the offense going, especially the ground game, was a point of emphasis as the Rams entered Homecoming vs. Iowa Falls-Alden on Sept. 24. That emphasis paid off even though Greene County lost the game, 28-13. The Rams ran the ball for 253 yards, a season best, and were just four yards from having two players reach the 100 yard mark on the ground. The contest was heard on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
Senior Trey Tucker had touchdown runs of 28 and seven yards, and he ran for 110 yards on 18 carries. Sophomore quarterback Clint Dennhardt had his best night running the ball with 16 carries for 96 yards.
Three turnovers resulting in 21 IF-A points were too much for the Rams to overcome as they fell to 0-5 on the season and 0-3 in Class 3A District 2. The Cadets improved to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the district.
Greene County out gained their opponent 282-209, and had more first downs, 13-9, but the turnovers were costly, as were nine penalties for 68 yards, one of which called by an apparent 38 yard touchdown run by Tucker in the fourth quarter with the Rams trailing 21-13. IF-A had no turnovers, but was penalized eight times for 72 yards.
Up next for the Rams is a Sept. 30 game in Boone, which can be heard on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
