Greene County Conservation Director Dan Towers says bow hunting season opens this Saturday, October 1st and early muzzleloader season starts Saturday, October 15th. A hunter must have their hunting license and habitat stamp to legally hunt. Towers recommends using the Greene County Recorder’s office to purchase hunting license and any deer tags for the season.

“They have the most knowledge of what’s going on with the (hunting) seasons and the license changes. The Recorder goes to meetings to stay up to date with the DNR changes. So that’s usually the best place to find out what’s going on.”

County Recorder Marcia Tasler says a state valid, any sex deer tag is $28.50. However, since Greene County didn’t get any antlerless tags this year, Tasler notes that you have to go to another county to purchase one of those deer tags. She adds that all 7,500 deer tags for early muzzleloader season have been sold out.

Call or stop by the recorder’s office in the courthouse in Jefferson with questions or to purchase a hunting license or deer tags.
