The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
The Board approved $2,500 of Louis Dreyfus grant funds for a road and infrastructure project at the Highland Township Cemetery. A concern was brought up about other township trustees coming to the Supervisors with funding help for their cemetery improvement projects. However, it was noted that the Supervisors would grant the Louis Dreyfus funding request for the portion of the project that dealt with the driveway into the cemetery, not in the cemetery itself.
The Board also opened two bids for the stained glass dome restoration project in the courthouse rotunda. The lowest bid came from the Stained Glass Store in Des Moines for $109,403. The other bid was $123,403 from Bovard Studio in Fairfield. The Board tabled their final decision pending final review of the construction documents and Brooks, Borg and Skiles, who did the pre-bid documents for the project. The original cost estimate for the project was $175,000. The Board discussed applying for Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation grant funds to use toward the project. It was noted that the project is scheduled to begin next month.
Finally, County Engineer Wade Weiss gave an update to the Board. He discussed logistics with the Supervisors about setting up a stage and chairs for the Mahanay Bell Tower 50th anniversary celebration on October 16th. He said that the Virden Company is building the electrical panels that will be used to control the 47-bell carillon in Ohio. Weiss also noted that they are going to build a secondary roads shop in Churdan for about $40,000 later this fall to store signs and flood control equipment. Finally, he said he is still putting together cost estimates to build a new county storage facility so that they could deed the former National Guard Armory building to the Greene County School District. The Board took no action on any of the items.
