Coach Kelly Simpson’s Greene County High School girls and boys were to have run in Lake City at the South Central Calhoun co-ed meet today (Tuesday), but the event has been cancelled due to the weather. Greene County has no other meet scheduled for this week.
Coach Simpson’s teams ran at Perry on Sept. 29, so this is the first time this season there hasn’t been at least a week in between meets. He talked about the girls’ team, which has been led by senior Olivia Hansen, but the other four point scorers at Perry were freshmen. “We’ve been pleased with how much these girls have improved. They’re pretty young and have really shown a lot of growth this last week or two.”
The Perry meet had a strong girls’ field with quite a few rated runners. Hansen finished 15th to lead the way for the Rams. “I told Olivia if she could be in the top 20 it would be a really good night. Bailey (Cunningham) was close at 24th. I really liked the way all the girls battled, especially the last one K, they were starting to move a little bit.”
Again, no cross-country meet in Lake City today.
