Greene County lost in four sets to Class 3A number 13 North Polk (Alleman) in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference volleyball on Thursday night in the middle school gym in Jefferson. Scores were 20-25, 18-25, 25-21, 17-25. The Comets improved to 6-1 in the conference while the Rams ended the HOIAC schedule at 2-6 and are 9-21 overall heading into the Winterset tournament tomorrow.

Donna Carhill, head coach of the Rams, said she felt her team played well against a strong offensive opponent. “I felt this is the best we’ve played in quite awhile. We moved quicker on the defensive side, ran our offense quicker in transition, and served more aggressively. Even though this counts against us as a loss, I believe we saw improvement all around, but particularly in the confidence level of the team.”

Megan Durbin led the Rams in kills with 18 and Nadia Fisher added 11. Emily Heupel was 19 for 19 serving with one ace. Hannah Stein went 17 for 17 at the service line and Hannah Promes was 13 for 13 with three ace serves. Promes had 33 assists and 18 digs. Heupel dug the ball 17 times.
