Olivia Hansen has only a short amount of time left as a high school cross-country runner. In fact, she realizes tomorrow’s Class 3A State Qualifying Meet in Spencer could be her last race. She hopes it isn’t, but as someone who’s been on a top 10 placing team at State as a freshman, then missed out on State qualification the last two years, she’s experienced the ups and downs. “The goal is to make it to State, but I just really want a PR (Personal Record) to end my senior year. You never know if it’s going to be the last time, so I want to go out with a bang!”

Hansen is Greene County’s top female runner, and has been each of the past three seasons. She’s coming off two strong races last week, both at Saydel High School in Des Moines, where she earned all-conference honors in the Heart of Iowa Conference meet by finishing eleventh, and then was fifth three days later at the Saydel Invitational.

Freshman Bailey Cunningham has been the Rams’ number two runner and three other freshman are numbers three, four, and five in most meets. They are Ashlee Harmeyer, Izzy Bravard, and Kassie Lamoureux.

There will be 12 girls and 12 boys teams in Spencer with the top three teams and top 15 individuals advancing to the Oct. 29 State Meet north of Ft. Dodge at Kennedy Park.
