The two Greene County high schools send their cross-country runners to State Qualifying Meets today, as do all the state’s programs in all four classes. Greene County will be venturing nearly 2-1/2 hours northwest of Jefferson to Spencer in Clay County while the three boys from Paton-Churdan that run cross-country have been assigned to the Lake Panorama meet hosted by Panorama High School.

The Rams send their girls and boys northwest for a Class 3A meet. The girls would seem to have the best chances for higher individual and team finishes, which has been the case all season since Greene County’s boys’ team only have five out for the sport, and some meets only two or three runners have been entered in the varsity race. Senior Olivia Hansen and freshmen Bailey Cunningham have been one and two all season for the Rams. Hansen was on the Rams’ top 10 team at State in 2013, but she hasn’t qualified since. That’s it for previous State experience for the Rams because all the others in the top five for the team are ninth graders.

The top 15 individuals and top three teams for both girls and boys advance to the Oct. 29 State Coed Meet north of Ft. Dodge at Kennedy Park.
