Greene County collected a rare first round regional tournament volleyball victory on Wednesday night in Atlantic. Coach Donna Carhill’s Rams swept the host Trojanns in three sets by scores of 25-13, 25-15, 25-11, to improve to 11-24 on the season. Atlantic ended at 4-28 and they dropped 26 of their last 27. The Rams play Class 3A fourth ranked Kuemper Catholic in Carroll at Kuemper on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. in a Region 2 semifinal. The Knight have lost just once all season and they swept Southeast Valley (Gowrie) on Wednesday night in Carroll.

Nadia Fisher was 18 of 19 serving the ball  with five aces, and Hannah Promes went 18 for 18. There were just four Greene County serving errors in the match. Megan Durbin had 13 kills with Hannah Stein at nine and Fisher with seven. Promes had 32 assists while Fisher, Promes, and Emily Heupel each dug the ball seven times.

Atlantic led 8-5 in set one before the the Rams scored seven points in a row with Promes serving to take control of the set. Set two was tied at 11-11, then the Rams scored 14 of the final 18 points for the win. The third set saw Greene County and Atlantic tied at 5-5 before the Rams scored six in  a row. Fisher was serving and she had three ace serves in that run. Greene County put the set away with a 9-1 run moments later.
