The Perry Bluejays football team got out to a 6-0 lead with back to back field goals on their first two possessions but they were unable to stop Logan Ward and the Iowa Falls Alden rushing attack falling 42-20 Friday night at Dewey field in the final game of the season.

Good fortune and aggressive attacking of the Cadet ball carriers helped Perry get fumble recoveries on back to back kickoffs.  German Alvaranga made his first field goal of the game and season from 41 yards out on a kick that would have easily been good from 51 yards with 10:40 to go after the first Bluejay recovery at the Cadet’s 24 yard line on the opening kick.  The next kick off was taken to the Perry 44 yard line before the ball was coughed up and recovered.  A 41 yard Alexis Garrido to Brandon Kenyon hook up put the Jays in scoring position again ending in a 31 yard field goal from Alvaranga again putting Perry up 6-0.

The next five scores belonged to Iowa Falls Alden in a stretch from 5:35 in the 1st quarter to the 6:25 mark of the 4th quarter.  Logan Ward, the Cadets leading running back accounted for all 5 of those touchdowns, starting with a 24 yard run with 5:35 to go in the first to lead 7-6 at the end of the first.  The next run from Ward was a backbreaker, after the Bluejays’ defense seemed to come up with a stop at the 50 yard line.  The Cadets lined up to punt with punter and running back Logan Ward taking the snap and racing around the left side of the line for a 50 yard touchdown run to go up 14-6 with 2:17 to go in the first half.

Ward extended the Cadets lead with a pair of third quarter 1 yard touchdowns putting Iowa Falls Alden up 28-6 at the end of the third.  A 40 yard touchdown run with 6:25 to go in the game ended Ward’s night with over 330 yards rushing and 5 touchdowns after 33 carries.

The Bluejays put up two late touchdowns thanks to solid blocking and hard running from Junior running back Mark Campos who had 88 yards on 10 carries, unofficially.  Perry’s season and the career of 11 Bluejays comes to an end with an overall record of 2-7, 0-7 in district play.
