A US House of Representative District Four candidate made a campaign stop in Jefferson Thursday.
Kim Weaver talked about several issues with about a dozen people who attended the meet and greet event at Greene Bean Coffee. She wants to expand Medicare coverage to include nursing homes to help lessen the burden on state governments. She also wants to expand the American Vista Volunteer program and apply it to decrease and forgive student loan debt. Weaver added that parents with parent plus loans could also volunteer in their communities to help reduce their loans as well.
She talked about more farmers and crop producers growing industrial hemp, which she says also helps to increase corn yields if corn is planted the opposite years with hemp. She believes there should be reimbursements for mental health services and transportation to and from those services. As for public education, Weaver says the federal government should be responsible for setting academic standards and then it’s up to the individual districts how to use those standards.
Weaver explained why people should vote for her as the Democrat candidate for US House.

“Because I’m focused on solutions for people instead of partisanship, bickering and grandstanding. That if they’re going to need my help, I don’t care if they’re Republican, Democrat, no party or not even registered to vote, I’m going to be there for them just like the seniors that I work for now.”
Weaver is running against Republican incumbent Steve King for House District Four.
