High school girls’ basketball teams all around Iowa begin practice today. Dean Lyons starts his second season as the Greene County girls’ head coach and Jeff Lamoureux begins season number two as the assistant coach.
The Rams were 3-18 last season and 3-13 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. There were five seniors on the 2015-16 team, but none scored more than 4.2 points or averaged more than five rebounds per game.
Greene County scored just 26.6 points per game a season ago. Leading scorer Laurin Lyons is a junior and she scored 7.7 points per contest as a sophomore. Lyons was also the leading rebounder at seven per game. A half dozen other players with significant varsity experience return.
The regular season for Greene County begins on Tuesday, Nov. 22 in Monroe with a JV/varsity girls conference night of action in Monroe vs. PCM. You can hear Greene County High School girls and boys basketball this season on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
