Last season the Lady Wildcat basketball team finished with a middle of the pack 11-12 record inside the West Central Activities conference. They finished right in the middle of the conference in total assists (273), steals (198), and blocks (52).
Where the Wildcats broke away from the pack last season were in the rebounding and field goal shooting categories. The Lady Wildcats had a more than solid rebounding season where they accumulated the third most rebounds in the conference with 768 total. Great news on that front is that West Central Valley will be getting back two of their top three rebounders from last season in Jenifer Dudley, and Grace Dupuy. Dudley hauled in 128 total rebounds while Dupuy grabbed 108 total on the season.
Perhaps one of the biggest positives from last season for West Central Valley was the field goal shooting. Last season the Wildcats took second overall in the conference at 42% converting 427 out of 1,011 attempts. It just so happens that those same two leaders leading the way in rebounds for the Lady Wildcats will also come back as the teams leaders in FG%. Jenifer came away last season with a team high 106 field goals made followed closely by Grace 86 total field goals made. Certainly a big boost for the Lady Wildcats as the two combined for over 45% of the teams rebounds and 44% of the teams total points.
The Lady Wildcats will look to spring off of their rebounding and shooting from last season. Their first bout of competitive action in the 2016-17 season takes place Thursday, November 17th when they head to Creston Southwestern Community College to square off against Creston, Nodaway Valley, Essex, East Union, CAM, and Diagonal high schools beginning at 5:45 pm.
