Official high school boys’ basketball practice began on Monday of this week for the Greene County Rams. Chris Nelson is the head coach and Chad Morton is the assistant. Both are new to these coaching positions, but both have coached the sport on the high school level for several years.

The Rams were 10-11 a season ago and although some good players graduated from that team, several others return. Among the returnees are senior Trey Tucker and sophomore Trey Hinote. Tucker has been on the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference first all-conference team all three previous years of high school and has amassed 1,273 career points. Hinote was an honorable mention all-conference pick as a ninth grader. Both are left-handed guards and both can score points. Tucker has averaged more than 19 points a game for three seasons while Hinote scored nearly nine a game last season in mostly a reserve role.

The coaching staff will be looking for more than Tucker and Hinote to score, but few can argue that the pair of guards is a good place to start.

The Rams open the boys’ basketball season on Nov. 28 in Jefferson vs. Ogden as part of a girl/boy doubleheader.
