There are now 177 members of the Iowa High School Athletic Association Football Players Hall of Fame after six men were inducted Friday night at halftime of the Class 4A Championship game in Cedar Falls inside the UNI-Dome. Among the latest class of inductees is 1995 Jefferson-Scranton graduate Brent Mac Lagan. A four-sport standout in high school, Mac Lagan was twice an all-state football player as a running back, and he was named to the ’94 Elite All-State team, a 24-person squad of players regardless of class size. He also played in the Shrine Bowl in ’95, then went on to a successful track and field career at the University of Northern Iowa.

Mac Lagan told Raccoon Valley Radio he never expected such an award. “It’s an elite deal. When you look at that class I was (inducted) with, all other NFL guys, you can see what it takes to get in there and it’s a good feeling. It’s something you don’t think about when you’re actually playing, or post career, and then to have it come up kind of out of the blue, was a really, really, nice surprise!”

He reflects back on his high school career. “You just remember all the teammates and what a great, great coaching staff! That core of coaches led by Bill Kibby, with Tom Powers, Coach Sawhill, and Coach Turpin, those guys were all kind of a core for a long time and kept things really going there. I have tons of good memories. All good memories about that program and that high school!”

Mac Lagan and 1986 Scranton High School graduate Bryce Paup are the only two graduates from Greene County high schools to receive the IHSAA Football Players Hall of Fame honor.
